“When our daughter and granddaughter moved to their own home, Joan and I found our five bedroom home in Norman was too large for the two of us and our German Shepherd dog Abby. We decided to sell and relocate to a smaller home. I wanted to move to an area on the Brazos river just south of Fort Worth.
We looked at a gated community near Granbury which we both liked but there were two drawbacks. The nearest large hospital was over 30 miles away and there was no public transportation. Since Joan has given up driving this could become a serious problem if I became unable to drive or needed to be hospitalized.
At this point we began looking at continuing care communities. Our requirement was a free-standing cottage or patio home and we must be allowed to keep our dog. After checking into several Continuing Care Retirement Communities (CCRC’s), we settled on Concordia because it met our requirements and their construction schedule would hopefully allow us sufficient time to sell our home in Norman. One big plus at Concordia which we had not considered was the life care concept.”
