In April 2013, Concordia Life Care Community began offering complimentary senior wellness clinics to area churches, nonprofits, senior centers, and civic organizations to provide valuable health services and complimentary health screenings. In some cases, these clinics reached Oklahoma’s at-risk, under-served or vulnerable elderly. Through the blessing of grant funds from The Kerr Foundation, Lutheran Church- Missouri Synod, Wheat Ridge Ministries and The Lutheran Church Extension Fund, this Concordia outreach ministry is 100% grant funded, and we sincerely thank these partner organizations for their generous support.
The sole purpose of the Wellness on Wheels Program is to promote active adult living by providing free vital health checks and general health education to older adults and seniors in or near Oklahoma County, as it aligns with Concordia’s mission and ongoing commitment to Social Accountability.
In 2014, Concordia provided 25 senior wellness clinics to area churches, YMCA’s, senior groups, and senior housing centers and served an estimated 800 wellness participants ranging in age from 55-95, who may not have access to affordable health care services or vital health screenings. From blood pressure and blood sugar checks, to answering questions about medications and providing general health education, the Wellness on Wheels program strives to present any information seniors may need regarding their current health and lifestyle.
