Successful Aging For The Body

Successful Aging For The Body

No matter your age, physical activity has countless benefits, including a healthier heart, stronger bones and improved flexibility. As we age, exercise for seniors has even more benefits, like protection from chronic diseases, lowering the chance of injury and even improving one’s mood and cognitive function!

Exercises for older adults can improve overall quality of life and increase life expectancy. It’s never too late to start engaging in a regular exercise routine. The key is to find an activity you enjoy at a level that is easy to maintain, so it no longer feels like a chore but something you look forward to each day.

EXERCISES FOR SENIORS AT CONCORDIA

At Concordia Life Care Community, we offer a variety of exercises for seniors. Our residents are sure to find something to participate in daily. A sampling of just a few of our exercises for seniors include:

Bands and Balance with Chris Coleman

The class theme is dynamic balance. The focus is training the postural muscles, on and off balance. The goal is to create a sense of comfort in the standing position. This class is appropriate for individuals able to safely handle 20 minutes of light intensity standing exercises. Bands and Balance is a 30-minute class on Thursdays at 10:30am.

Drums Alive with Carrie Riddle

Drums Alive combines movement with the powerful beat and rhythms of drumming for an amazing brain and body workout! Golden Beats stimulates people whether they are young or old, healthy or ill. When we drum and dance we are having FUN! This in return releases endorphins and removes negative feelings. The rhythmical patterns of the drum increases synchronization of brain wave activity, which in-turn provides feelings of euphoria and improved mental awareness and self-acceptance. Golden Beats® is specially-designed for the senior population. Drums Alive Golden Beats is a 30-minute workout on the 2nd and 4th Tuesdays of the month at 4:00pm.

Zumba Gold ®

Zumba Gold ® is a modified Zumba ® class. Zumba Gold ® can be taught in the chair if mobility is an issue. Zumba Gold ® is low impact which means one foot is on the floor at all times-no jumping or running. The intensity can and will vary depending on the fitness level of the participant. The choreography in Zumba Gold ® focuses on balance, range of motion and coordination. All elements of fitness can be obtained in a Zumba Gold ® class as it includes cardiovascular and muscular strengthening benefits as well as flexibility and balance aspects. As an added bonus, Zumba Gold ® is fun! The music boasts many international rhythms and dance styles-meringue, salsa, cumbia, big band, swing, cha cha cha…the list goes on. Zumba Gold ® is awesome! The class is instructed by Angela Kasbohm, a Certified Personal Trainer who is licensed to teach Zumba Gold ®, Zumba Fitness ® and Aqua Zumba ®.
