Why Oklahoma City is the Best Place to Retire
Oklahoma City is the capital of Oklahoma and attracts a variety of people, from young adults seeking to start a life for themselves to seniors looking for just the right place to settle down and enjoy a well-deserved independent living retirement. Many retirees often begin their search by looking for cities that offer the best places to relax, unwind and enjoy life. If you’re looking for such a place, Oklahoma City is right for you!
OKC has over 300 days of sunshine each year. The city is also accessible and easy to get around, as three major highways all converge in Oklahoma City. And of course, there is an array of exciting restaurants, popular attractions and other interesting places to experience within the city. Take a look at some of the great amenities and sights that Oklahoma City has in store for you.
Restaurants in Oklahoma City
OKC plays host to several restaurants to satisfy your cravings. Many have been listed on local “Best Of” lists or “Top 10” lists for dining in OKC. Here are just a few places to try:
- Picasso Café prides itself on hospitality. There are six different menus to gloss over, weekly specials, and also offers catering and private events.
- Off The Hook Seafood and More has two locations in Oklahoma City and offers a huge selection of seafood and soul food. Walk-ins are also welcome!
- Zorba’s Mediterranean Cuisine features flavors from all over the world. Catering and reservations for private events are available, and they offer a culinary tour every month so you can learn more about the establishment and cuisine.

Sightseeing is a popular pastime, and Oklahoma City has several places to explore for those wanting to take in the sights.
The Oklahoma City Zoo offers patrons numerous opportunities to learn and get up close with the animals. Attractions such as the Giraffe Feeding Platform and ExploriKeet Adventure gives you the opportunity for first-hand experiences with the animals. The main event at the zoo is the Wild Encounters, where you can REALLY get up close with animals such as flamingos, elephants and Galapagos tortoises. The zoo is open daily from 9:00am to 5:00pm, and admission is $11 for adults and $8 for seniors 65 years or older.
For a relaxing day on the water, we recommend the Oklahoma River Cruises. Witness the beautiful Oklahoma River and learn about its importance to the city. Several types of cruises are available, and landings are located near more of the city’s landmarks and sights. Specialty cruises appear throughout the year, and the main timeline for cruises lies between the months of May to October. Tickets are typically $12 for adults, and $6 for seniors 65 or older.
